Wouldn’t it be great if this grows over the coming years and the way we start Carfest is with all the people who have been part of the Have a Go Heroes Challenge assembling at the start line of the track and having a parade on the Friday. That would be fantastic.”

~ Chris Evans

On his Virgin Radio breakfast show, Chris always advocates people trying new things, encouraging us all to push ourselves just a little. To take the first step to improve our physical and mental health. Who can forget back in 2014 when he ran the London Marathon for the first time? Without telling anyone! He has encouraged and inspired so many people, including everyone on the admin team.

Back in September 2023, after a few years of poor health and a spell in hospital, and with Chris’ encouragement ringing in her ears, Penny took on a charity walking challenge to walk for 30 minutes per day. There was no time limit or minimum distance. By the end of the month, to her amazement, she had clocked up over 40 miles!

This gave Penny the idea of the Have-a-go-Hero challenge. She was then contacted by a buddy, Duncan Rutherford, who is planning a running challenge. again hugely inspired by Chris, and wanting to raise money for the CarFest charities. Penny saw this as a sign that the challenge was underway!

The challenge is designed to be fully inclusive so that anyone can take part!

  • Can be anything from running 7 ultra- marathons to a kid making their bed five days in a row and being sponsored for doing so. You can even sit in a bath of baked beans if that takes your fancy!
  • Something that encourages people to try something new, to push themselves a little.
  • You will have support and encouragement from the group and volunteer mentors.
  • Every participant will receive a medal and a certificate to celebrate their achievement.
  • Can be a group challenge.

The challenge runs from 1st July to 30th September 2024. Please join us and help the CarFest Buddies raise lots of dosh for all these fabulous charities!
